AACF recently acquired an apartment building on a 17,000-square-foot lot a little over a mile from the Oak Park office to be used for an interim housing program to be launched in April this year. The building was a former hotel converted into ten apartments with one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. Plans for renovations include creating a communal kitchen and programming for housing program participants. The building is located in a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood and is accessible by various transportation lines. We are excited to provide interim housing to our clients who may need these services as they are working to build their employability through AACF work readiness programs.
We believe that no one should be without housing and we are well aware of the implications of experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness upon an individual’s ability to secure work and maintain a place in the workforce. The new interim housing program at AACF will have the capacity to provide housing for up to 13 individuals as they participate in programming including workforce development, counseling, financial literacy, vocational training, and case management. The goal of AACF is to build self-sufficiency in clients struggling with economic insecurity through workforce development, community partnerships, and support services. We are diligently assisting in the growing need to be of service to a greater number of our clients living with the challenges of housing insecurity and the day-to-day struggle for survival and obtaining basic human needs.
